The White Rooster Farmhouse Décor recently opened for business at 224 Broadway St., Jackson. Owner Denise Cheyney is no stranger to the home décor business.
Originally a legal secretary, Cheyney decided she was ready to be a business owner. She started her journey, which eventually landed her in historic downtown Jackson, as part of a home party business. Denise soon realized that her talent for merchandising and decorating, along with her husband Tim's talent for upcycling and restoration of furniture pieces, went beyond just a home-based business.
The couple first landed a home décor shop in Wooster, Ohio, and then an antiques store in Millersburg. In previous years, Tim Cheyney's original furniture pieces were featured in The Country House mail order catalog.
Denise had to retire eventually due to a back injury, but after a successful surgery, the proprietor decided she needed to get busy once again.
The duo narrowed their search down to Gallipolis and Jackson. The beauty, historic buildings, and small-town feel of downtown Jackson drew the Cheyneys to Broadway Street in the former long-time location of a diner.
Unique furniture pieces, dishes and rugs are just a few of the items featured in the newly renovated store. Custom signs, curtains, and embroidery pieces can be ordered right in the shop. Some pieces are "brought in," but a good portion comes from the skilled hands of Tim Cheyney.
Denise has decorated the shop beautifully and is patiently awaiting the official grand opening on Saturday, July 14, starting at 11 a.m. Until then, visitors are welcome Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many of their beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces can be seen on their Facebook page, facebook.com/thewhiteroosterstore.
