An Ironton man died tragically Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, after he was struck by his own vehicle while making a delivery at a residence on Beaver Pike in Scioto Township west of Jackson.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a woman called Jackson County’s Emergency Services at 8:26 a.m. Wednesday, reporting that there had been a motor-vehicle crash and that a man was under the vehicle.

The victim, identified as 50-year-old Scott M. Greene, of Ironton, was a delivery contractor, who had stopped at a Beaver Pike residence. Greene parked his delivery van on an icy incline of the driveway, but the van began to slide, striking him and pinning him under the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner.

The Jackson County Coroner’s Office reports that the vehicle was in the parking gear when the incident occurred and it’s believed that the vehicle slid due to being parked on the icy incline, as a witness had reported.

The Jackson County Coroner’s Office, the Scioto Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
