The Vinton County EMA has formally announced a change in the Vinton County Alert System from NIxle to Hyper-Reach. Previously, alerts were received through the system known as NIxle. This service was officially discontinued on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

In order to continue to receive Weather and Community Alerts citizens will need to enroll in Hyper-Reach. Residents and people who work in Vinton County are encouraged to enroll now either by calling or texting “Alert” to 740-669-7798 or by going to the website http://hyper-reach.com/ohvintonsignup.html.

Citizens can also get emergency alerts via their Alexa-enabled smart speakers just by saying “Alexa, enable Hyper-Reach” and following the Alexa-provided instructions. With more than 50 million U.S. households using Alexa devices, there are obviously several county residents with Alexa units.
