Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain recently stated that the policy of the county upon notification from the National Weather Service of a Tornado Watch being issued is for 911 dispatchers to activate the Outdoor Warning Sirens to advise citizens in the area that a watch has been issued.

If the National Weather Service then increases the Tornado Watch to a Tornado Warning, the 911 dispatcher will once again activate the sirens to advise the citizens of that area of an increased threat. It is the policy of Vinton County that once all watches and warnings are completed, the sirens will not be activated to cancel the advisements.
