The Vinton County Local Schools have a busy three months ahead as building projects and summer school sessions will keep the staff and administration busy. During an interview with The Telegram, Superintendent, Rick Brooks and Assistant Superintendent Teresa Snider spoke about what the schools have on tap and what lies ahead.

Brooks stated one of the first large projects to be completed will be the roofing project at the Board’s Administration Building. Brooks will work soon with Maintenance Supervisor John Zinn to coordinate the project. The 1939 and 1967 roof sections are included in the project. Brooks told the Board of Education members the roof has been patched many times but is not holding and needs to be replaced.

The district will also be making announcements about a major renovation project for the administration office building and grounds. Brooks stated the schools are also involved in HVAC projects. Minor work will be done on the school parking lots as well. The high school basketball court is also being designed with a new VC logo and a white circle will be featured.

Snider also pointed out the summer is not what it used and has become busier. She noted the district is preparing for the summer school sessions as the teachers and staff have been hired. She stated the summer sessions provide a great service to the students.

Brooks also stated interviews for the new middle school principal and assistant principal positions are taking place.

“Mrs. Snider and I have been conducting interviews and we have many qualified candidates to choose from,” said Brooks. He says they will be making a recommendation to the board members soon. They will be filling the posts vacated when Middle School Principal Jeremy Ward and Assistant Principal Sarah Heneman resigned. The district will also be deciding on the high school athletic director’s position. It was vacated when Matt Combs, who held both the athletic director and head boys’ basketball positions, resigned to accept a position at Unioto High School. Earlier, the board promoted assistant basketball coach N.J. Kight to the head basketball coaching position but they have yet to fill the AD’s slot.

The board is also still in the process of negotiating a contract with the Vinton County Local Teachers Association. The two sides have been far apart on a pact, but talks are continuing and both sides hope for an agreement. They are also preparing for the 2022-23 school year as the first day for students will be Aug. 17.
