The Vinton County Junior Fair is on the immediate horizon with a Queens Contest being one of the major events on the weekend heading into the fair.

The Vinton County Junior Fair is set to kick off Saturday July 24 at 7 p.m. with the Queens Contest on the Terry Fout Stage. In the case of inclement weather, the contest would be moved to a nearby school; this has happened in recent years. This year, there are 16 girls overall seeking royalty positions, including four senior queen candidates and 11 girls vying for attendant positions in the various 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 grade categories.

The contestant lineup is as follows: (Queen Candidates): Cassidy King (sponsored by Mama Renies); Shaelyn Holliday (Sponsored by Vinton County Recorder Erin “Koty” Yates); Lexi Kempton (Sponsored by Refit Logging); and Lakota Mace.

The grade-level attendant candidates are: (Seventh and Eighth Grade): Madyson Zimmerman, Allison Champion, Cassidy Graham and Trinity King; (Fifth and Sixth Grade): Emily Hutchison, Mattison Whiteman, Lilly McManus and Rayven Zimmerman; (Third and Fourth Grade): Peyton King, Helen Saunders, Peyton Eby, and Emelia Champion.

The contestants for the Vinton County Queen's Contest met Tuesday night, July 6, at the fair board office in the Fern Kruger Building for pictures and an informational meeting.

The Fern Kruger Building has also received a major renovation with the work including a major cleaning, a paint job, and the laying of a new floor. The building serves as the commercial building for the fair and as a dining center, as it has a full kitchen. There has also been progress made at the Mullins Pizza facility at the fairgrounds. The Telegram will have a follow up story concerning the improvements already made and those to come.
