The Vinton County Local Board of Education dealt with several financial-and-policy matters when meeting on Tuesday April 15 at the District Office. The board approved the following contracts, agreements, and memorandums of understanding.

* An agreement with the Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Company to provide student insurance for the 2023 school year.

* An agreement to allow all the Southern Ohio Forest Rally groups to use the high school parking lot for their rally on June 11. There will be opportunities for student organizations to conduct fundraisers during the event.

An agreement with Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine to perform physicals for the transportation employees at $50 per physical.

* An agreement with the Gallia-Jackson-Vinton Joint Vocational School District for the Early Childhood Education Program.

* Setting the pay scale for summer-school teachers at $50 and $200 a day. 

* Approving a $1,000 stipend for everyone for the Summer Backpack program.

Conversely, a master-service agreement with Metatag Solutions was also approved. It includes Managed Internal Broadband Services for the high school ($3,465); Schedule 1 Financial Agreement for the State Software Redesign ($30,970.75); Schedule II Anywhere Plus and Library Services/NF Ohio Automation ($8,856.71). The board also accepted eight donations from various businesses for the prom, project backpack, the band, and choir.

The Board also applied for and accepted the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation School Safety and Security $40,000 grant to garner part of the cost of buying new floor scrubbers for every building. The district’s cost will be $47,683.30. 

In policy matters, the board approved the graduation list for the high school seniors. The district will be holding the formal Scholarship Awards Program on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m., and the Commencement exercises will be Friday, May 20.
