McARTHUR – The Vinton County Lady Vikings defeated the Wellston Lady Rockets in straight sets, 25-8, 25-15, and 25-16 in a Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division contest Tuesday night.

With the win, the Lady Vikings raise their record to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in TVC-Ohio play, while Wellston falls to 3-4, 0-3.

Lacy Ward led the Lady Vikings offensively with 11 kills, while Cameron Zinn and Sydney Smith had six each.

Sadie Henry led Wellston with five kills, and Taylar Spencer had four.

Serving also proved to be a big in the win for the Lady Vikings, as they had 18 ace serves.

Zinn had 21 assists, while she and Kerrigan Ward had eight digs.

Wellston’s Kamryn Karr led the Lady Rockets with eight digs, and Emma Ingalls had seven.

Wellston’s Kaley Lower thought her team picked up some intensity against the defending TVC-Ohio Division champions.

“Our middle and outside did a phenomenal job of getting their hands on the ball,” said Lower.

Coach Lower also said Karr’s return after an injury was good because she is everywhere and brings excitement to the court.

Defending the home court is always an important goal, according to Vinton County head coach Ashley Ervin.

“We always want to play well at home,” said Ervin. “Wellston was scrappy, and we served very well tonight.”

The Lady Vikings were back in TVC-Ohio Division action on Thursday, winning in five-sets at Alexander, while Wellston dropped its match in straight sets against Athens.

The Lady Vikings will host Oak Hill in a non-conference match on Monday.
