WELLSTON – The Wellston volleyball team lost its 17th consecutive match of the season against Southern on Tuesday night.

After a 25-18 win in the first set by Southern, the match was tightly contested. Southern escaped with a second set victory 25-20 and a 27-25 win in the fourth set, despite trailing. The Lady Rockets got their lone victory in the third set 25-10.

Outside hitter Sadie Henry led the Lady Rockets in kills with 12 and was second on the team in digs with 16, behind Emma Ingalls, who had 18 for the match. Henry also had five ace serves for Wellston.

Southern had a slight advantage upfront, out blocking Wellston 5-3. Kloe Pennington had three block assists, while Henry had two, and Kamryn Karr had two solo blocks.

Karr also dished out 24 assists for the match.

Wellston trailed from start to finish in the first two sets and had opportunities to send the match into a fifth and deciding set, but could not hold onto 21-18 and 25-24 leads in the fourth set.

Wellston closed out the regular season on the road at Meigs on Thursday.

The Lady Rockets, which drew the No. 25-seed in the Division III sectional tournament, will travel to Lawrence County to face No. 24 South Point on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m.

Miller 3, Wellston 0: The Lady Rockets lost on the road at Miller by the scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 on Monday, Oct. 12.

Sadie Henry had four kills and five digs for Wellston, while Kloe Pennington added four kills for the Lady Rockets.

Kamryn Karr had 13 assists to go along with eight digs for the match.

River Valley 3, Wellston 2: In TVC-Ohio Division play, Wellston lost to River Valley in a grueling five-set match on Friday, Oct. 9.

After losing decisively in the first two sets, the Lady Rockets came back strong before finishing on the losing end, 12-25, 8-25, 25-14, 25-20, and 12-15.

On the offensive end, Sadie Henry led Wellston with nine kills, and 10 ace serves. Lauren Cheatham finished with six kills, while Kloe Pennington added five, and Kamryn Karr had three while putting up 15 assists for the match.

On defense, libero Emma Ingalls led the Lady Rockets with 13 digs, while Henry had 10.a
