Three local athletes in The Telegram coverage area were named to the All-State team in their respective sports for 2022.
In softball Wellston’s Jenna Johnston was named to the first team in Division III, while Kerrigan Ward of Vinton County received second team honors in Division II of the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-State squads.
Johnston finished the season batting .506 with 39 hits including four triples, 10 home runs, 34 RBIs and 36 runs scored – all team-highs.
She was also tabbed as the co-Player of the Year on the Southeast District squad, as well as Offensive MVP on the TVC-Ohio Division team in 2022.
Ward, who was named the TVC-Ohio Division Defensive Player of the Year, batted .600 with 51 hits – a new single season school record, including a pair of home runs, 12 doubles, 20 runs scored and 22 RBIs. Additionally, she went 14-7 in the pitching circle with a 2.93 ERA in 124.1 innings of work and struck out 106 batters.
Meanwhile, Jackson catcher Caeleb McGraw was named to the second team on the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State team in Division II.
McGraw batted .437 with 37 hits in 81 plate appearances with six doubles and one triple for the Ironmen in 2022.
He drove in 30 runs and scored 29 to help lead Jackson to an overall record of 20-4 this season.
He finished with a .494 on-base percentage, along with a slugging percentage of .519.
