The Heisman Trophy Trust and Acceptance Insurance have announced the 2021 School Winners for the Heisman High School Scholarship presented by Acceptance Insurance and the list includes two highly accomplished scholar-athletes from Jackson High School -- Olivia Kennedy and Grant Mastin.

From an applicant pool of thousands of high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2022, more than 5,700 have been named School Winners in the Heisman High School Scholarship competition awarded by The Heisman Trophy Trust and Acceptance Insurance.

Scholarship amounts have increased in 2021. School Winners will continue on for the chance to become State Winners, National Finalists or National Winners. State Winners, announced on Tuesday, Nov. 2, receive a $1,000 college scholarship; National Finalists, announced on Monday, Nov. 8, receive a $2,000 college scholarship; and the male and female National Winners, announced on Wednesday, Dec. 1, will each receive a $10,000 college scholarship. Both Kennedy and Mastin have been nominated for these awards. In addition to their academic qualifications, Kennedy and Mastin are both among Jackson High School’s most accomplished athletes. Kennedy qualified for the State Track Meet as a junior last school year and recently qualified for the Regional Cross Country Meet as a senior. Mastin is one of the captains and top players for the 2021 Jackson Ironmen football team which won the Frontier Athletic Conference championship, and which took a 9-2 record this past Friday night into a quarter-final game of the state playoffs.

The Heisman Memorial Trophy is annually awarded to the most outstanding college football player in the nation. The Heisman High School Scholarship, presented by Acceptance Insurance, extends the Heisman prestige to our nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by recognizing and rewarding outstanding scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories not only happen on the field, but in their schools and communities. To apply, students must be graduating with the class of 2022, have a cumulative weighted high school grade point average of a B (3.0) or better, participate in at least one of the sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Games and/or the National Federation of State High School Association and be a leader in his/her school and community.

The Heisman High School Scholarship is presented by Acceptance Insurance. From its inception in 1994, the program has leveraged the reputation of the Heisman Memorial Trophy as a symbol of great ability combined with diligence, perseverance and hard work.
