The Jackson Co. Black Sox participated in the Nation’s Ohio State Championships this past weekend, held in Newark, Ohio. The tournament was broken into two divisions – “Open” and “Select”. The 10U Sox would win the Select Division. Pool play opened on Thursday, with the Sox playing the Westerville Naturals. The game would end after four innings in a run-rule, 13-0. The Black Sox had 11 hits, with Waylon Delong and Easton Large with two apiece. Cooper Marcum started the game on the hill for the Black Sox, but Griffen Michael pitched three of the four innings to ensure the win.

In the second game, the Sox played a very good team from Strongsville known as the Premier Ohio Stallions. The Sox would go into the last inning losing 4-3, but in the top of the inning they would score seven runs and finally win the game by a score of 10-5. During the game, the Sox had 10 hits with multiple hits by Easton Large, Collin Landrum, and Jake Gallagher.

In the third game, the Sox cruised to an 11-1 win over T3 from Lorain.

As the Sox moved to bracket play, they would see everyone’s best pitcher. Their first game would be against a team from Swanton called the Anthony Wayne Generals. Runs would prove to be hard to come by because of the Generals outstanding defense. Lundrum and Large would pitch for the Sox and the final score ended up being 4-2.

In the semifinal, Collin Lundrum pitched outstanding. The game was close early, but a home run by Gallagher put the Sox up 3-1 in the third inning. In the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, Delong hit a triple to score Kruiz Kuhn, Braden Bobst, and Griffen Michael, ending the game in a 9-1 run-rule win.

In the championship game, they would play 5-0 Twinsburg, who dominated their opponents throughout the tournament. The Sox jumped out to an early lead in the first with a squeeze bunt by Colon Landrum to score Griffen Michael. In the bottom of the inning, a scoring threat by Twinsburg ended as left fielder, Kruiz Kuhn made a great play on a line drive to help end the inning. The Black Sox finished 14 hits. Marcum led the team with four hits. A key hit in the final inning by Corbyn Smalley helped the Sox seal the victory, 13-4.
