JACKSON – Cloie Michael drove in three runs, but the Jackson Ironladies could not overcome an early deficit in an 11-4 loss to Hillsboro in a Frontier Athletic Conference softball game on Tuesday.

Leah Alford had two hits and an RBI, while Taylor Evans had two hits and scored a run for Jackson. Also, Gabby Webb and Haley Simmonds finished with one hit apiece.

Trailing 8-0 in the second inning, Maddie Baxter and Evans both walked. Baxter advanced to third and scored when Michael flew out to right field.

Then in the bottom of the third, Makayla Wyant walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Alford for the Ironladies’ second run of the game.

Jackson closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Michael singled to plate Meghan McGhee and Evans, but it would be as close as the Ironladies would get.

Hillsboro, which put up five runs in the first and three more in the second, added three runs in the seventh en route to the 11-4 victory.

Evans started in the circle for the Ironladies and suffered the pitching loss. She had six strikeouts in five innings of work and surrendered eight runs on seven hits against Hillsboro.

Michael came on in relief to finish the game for Jackson. In two innings of work, Michael gave up three runs on two hits with one strikeout.

The Ironladies returned to the diamond on Friday in a FAC matchup against Chillicothe. They will travel to Fairland for a non-league matchup on Tuesday.
