McARTHUR – The Vinton County Lady Vikings captured their third win of the new year with a 66-46 victory over the Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers in a non-conference basketball game Monday night.

Cameron Zinn had a strong night for the Lady Vikings offensively with 19 points and 11 rebounds, including five off the offensive glass. Tegan Bartoe poured in 17 points while Chloe Haybron and Lacie Williams had nine points each.

Rylee Ousley and Sydney Smith chipped in five points apiece, while Lindsey Riddle had two points in the win.

Vinton County shot 24.1 percent (19 of 79) from the field and was 6 of 23 (26.2 percent) from the three-point area. Vinton County also had one of their best free-throw shooting games, making 10 of 13 (76.9 percent) attempts.

With the win, Vinton County improves to 8-2 while Chillicothe falls to 3-7.

Chillicothe was led by Jacey Harding with 18 points as she was the only double-digit scorer for the Lady Cavaliers.

Vinton County head coach Brent Jones stated the performance was a good start as the team is facing a tough stretch ahead.

“Our next five games are going to be tough and will be a good test for us,” said Jones. “It is the biggest thing for us going into the tournament. We also need to try and win our final league games. We need to be playing our best basketball the rest of the season. We can compete with anyone.”

The game started quickly as the Lady Viking raced out an early 17-12 lead including an early 10-0 lead which Chillicothe cut to a 10-7. Zinn scored six-points, including a three-pointer with 3:33 left to give Vinton County a 15-7 lead.

Vinton County forged ahead in the second quarter to take a 34-25 advantage at the half. Willams powered Vinton County’s offensive effort with six points.

As the second-half play opened, the Lady Vikings added 19 points in the third quarter to lead 53-36 as Bartoe had eight points.

The Lady Vikings added 13 in the final period to close out the win, as Zinn scored eight more points during the stanza.

The Lady Vikings will have two non-league challenges on the road this week, including Marietta on Thursday Wheelersburg on Saturday.
