The shattering of Oak Hill High School’s three-point record by Baylee Howell was one of the exciting senior-night moments that unfolded during the Lady Oaks’ 69-33 Southern Ohio Conference win over Eastern on Thursday night.

Howell was one of four seniors, along with Chloe Chambers, Brooke Howard, and Kristina Zubretovska honored during pregame ceremonies.

Howell put on a stellar performance, as she made 10 three-pointers to finish with 30 points in the win. Howell was tied with Mikie Strite for most threes in a single game with eight entering Thursday’s contest.

Chambers had another strong game with 22 points and 18 rebounds. Her scoring combination was different, as she made 11 two-point field goals.

Howell broke the record with about five minutes to go as the game was stopped to acknowledge her achievements.

After the game, Howell spoke about her achievement and what a special night it was for her.

“I was in the groove when I came out in the first quarter, and I hit four threes.” said Howard. “I was a little shaky in the second and third quarters, but I came back in the fourth and started hitting them again.”

Oak Hill Coach Scott Lewis also complimented Howell on her performance.

“The kids played well and they come out focused,” said Lewis. “They were on task. We talked about being patient with the ball and executing before the game.”

Besides the big performances from Howell and Chambers, the Oaks also received 10 points from Brooke Howard, and seven from Jordan Howard. The Lady Oaks were 28 of 50 (48 percent) from the field, including an 11 of 27 performance (41 percent) from three-point range. They also had 35 rebounds, 17 assists, and four blocks.

Eastern was led by Cylie Weaver with 13 points while Madison Shuler added eight to their tally. The Lady Eagles made four shots from inside the arc and four from outside the arc. The Eagles have 28 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and one block.

The Lady Oaks built an 18-12 lead in the first quarter powered by Howell’s four three-point shots.

In the second quarter, Chambers scored 10 points, and Jordan Howard had seven to take 37-16 lead at the break.

As the second-half play opened, the Lady Oaks extended the lead to 55-30, and went on to close out the win in the fourth.

The Lady Oaks return to action Monday in a SOC Division II matchup at Portsmouth West.
