WILLIAMSPORT – Oak Hill’s Kameron Maple is state-bound after shooting a two-over-par 74 during the Southeast District tournament in Division II on Wednesday at Crown Hill Golf Club in Williamsport.

Maple finished as the match medalist and earned the only state qualifying spot.

Only one team and one individual not on the qualifying team advances to the state golf tournament next Saturday, Oct. 16, at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course.

He led the field of 60 individual golfers after shooting 36 on the front side and 38 on the back.

The Oak Hill senior punched his ticket to the district tournament after finishing fourth with a score of 81 at the Southeast District sectional tournament last week at the Elk’s Country Club in Portsmouth.

Maple is the first state-qualifier in the history of the young golf program at Oak Hill.

Gallia Academy won the only team qualifying spot with a first-place score of 324. The Blue Devils had three of its four scoring golfers finish 6th, 7th, and 8th in the individual standings.

Fairland came in second in the team standings with a 337, Wheelersburg was third at 343, and Unioto was fourth at 346, followed by Fairfield Union (350), Piketon (351), Circleville (359), Minford (359), Washington Court House (363), and Alexander (394).

Oak Hill, Chesapeake, South Point. Wellston, Meigs, and Zane Trace did not record a team score.

Maple’s teammate and senior Dylan Collins concluded his season after shooting a 14 over-par 86 to finish in 16th place in the individual standings. Collins shot 43 on both the front nine and back on Wednesday.

In addition, the season ended for Jaxon Montgomery of Wellston. The sophomore, who qualified for the Southeast District tournament after placing 17th at the sectional tournament last week, finished 59th individually on Wednesday. Montgomery shot 108 on the 18-hole course after shooting a 56 on the front side and 52 on the back.
