To The Editor:

A Nursing Home Christmas Shoe Box Drive -- This is a challenge for every nursing home in our area.

As we know since March our lives and world changed. A lot of things have been taken away from us like visiting someone we love in a nursing home. Four Winds is where my mommy is. All through the year the nursing home does fundraisers to raise money to have Christmas for the residents. Well with no visitor going in and out no money has been raised. So that is why I came up with a shoe box Christmas for the residents.

If you don't know what that is, it is a box full of all kinds of goodies and hygiene items for men and women. So that being said I am reaching out for the community’s help. I have already received gift boxes from Guhl's Country Store and DeAnna, owner of Fab D Boutique and Hair Salon. She is so good helping out when I ask for her help. I am doing this two different ways. You can fill up a shoe box yourself or you can donate enough money to fill up a box. I will also have a box on my porch in case you would like to drop off items. It is a hard time for the residents so let's put a smile on their faces for Christmas when they get their shoe box. I need 85 boxes for Four Winds.

Here is a list of items that are allowed to go into the boxes:

Tooth paste; tooth brush; deodorant; lotion (men and women); hair brushes; hair accessories; combs; after shave; small package of tissues; snack cakes; non-slippery footies; chewing gum; candy (no hard tac); and small bags of chips.

So again, let's help nursing home residents. As a community we can do this.

It's not too early to start.

Thank you,

Kathy Sparks
