Lawrence E. "Larry" Newman, age 74, of Hamden, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at his home.  He was born Nov. 28, 1945 in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Henry Newman and Ruth Opal Sowards Newman. 

Larry was a 1963 graduate of Hamden High School.  He retired from General Mills in Wellston, where he worked as a machinist, and was also a former employee of McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing, where he was employed for several years. 

Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy, who served during the Vietnam War as an Electronics Technician aboard the USS Dale.  Larry enjoyed the outdoors and he loved going fishing and squirrel hunting.  He was a fan of all types of sports and he especially enjoyed cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Bengals and watching NASCAR.  Larry was a member of the Puritan Free Will Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy F. Wiseman Newman; children, Billy Newman of Puritan, Melissa Newman (Ronald McBride) of Mansfield, and Eric Newman (Trishanna) of McArthur; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kisor (Justin), Joshua Newman (Latisha), Zeke Newman, Zacc Newman, Ryder Newman, Maddox Newman, Charlie Rayele Newman and Daisy Newman; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Kisor; sisters, Dorothy Jenkins of Hamden and Betty Norton of Radcliff; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by brothers, Billy Ray Newman and Bob Newman; and sister, Margie Kisor.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Puritan Free Will Baptist Church, St. Rt. 160 Hamden.  Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jamie Fortner officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will be in the Hamden Cemetery.
