Kathryn R. Shveda, 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Oct. 5, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Nov. 1, 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio, the beloved daughter to the late Elvey Clifton and Margaret “Peg” Ester Fri. She grew up on their family farm and was active in the 4-H club. In her early years, she played tenor sax in the marching, orchestra and jazz bands.  Kathryn was also a soprano singer and enjoyed swimming. She graduated from McArthur High School in 1955 and attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Kathryn held several secretarial positions and was eventually an office manager for a number of years. She loved working in the garden and cooking, and had a knack for a large variety of arts and crafts. She loved her OSU football and UCONN basketball to the core, but, most of all, her passion was her children and grandchildren: they were her life. Many that knew her even just referred to her as “Mom” - that’s who she was. Kathryn was a longtime resident of Heritage Village in Southbury, CT. There, she was an avid golfer and bowler, loved her games of bridge and mahjong, and frequently attended the theater and traveled.  She was an active member of the United Church of Christ and was a volunteer at Pomperaug Elementary school for a number of years. She was a special lady loved by all.

Kathryn was the widow of the late Robert V. Chamberlain of Marietta, Ohio. She is predeceased by her brother, David L Fri of Knoxville, TN, and second husband, the late Andrew P. Shveda of New Canaan, CT.

She is survived by her four children: Gordon Chamberlain, Stephanie Swenson, Robert Chamberlain and Andrew Shveda, Jr. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Dr. Cooper Swenson, Kelley Swenson and Madison Chamberlain, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 12 to 4 p.m.; for further information and to RSVP, please email LifeOfKayCelebration@gmail.com.
