Donald E. Comer, 86, of Albany, Ohio, passed away at his home Jan. 25, 2021. He was born Jan. 5, 1935, the eldest of Clayton and Myrtle (Musgrave) Comer.

N. Pauline (Puckett) Comer, 82, of Albany, Ohio, passed away Jan. 29, 2021 at the Four Winds Community Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 19, 1938, the eldest of Frank and Alice (Clifford) Puckett.

Don worked for the Norfolk and Western Railroad from 1953-1957. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served during peacetime from 1957-1961 aboard the USS Waller. Upon leaving the Navy, he was employed as a stationary engineer of the Ohio University Laushe Heating Plant until his retirement in 1997. He also taught steam operations to employees of Ohio University and Buckeye Hills Vocational School for adult education for purpose of obtaining boiler operator and stationary engineer licenses.

Both Don and Pauline grew up in and later met in Jackson County, Ohio. They married on April 15, 1957. They moved to Albany in 1967, where they have called home ever since and raised a family of three children.

Together they attended Temple United Methodist Church as well as attending and becoming members of Albany United Methodist Church. The shared a love of gospel and bluegrass music. Over the years, they faithfully served the Lord by teaching Sunday school, led worship service and church programs, served on the administrative board, contributed to the construction and maintenance of both churches, sang in the choir, and directed Temple United Methodist Church's first Vacation Bible School as well as many others.

Over the years, while Don enjoyed farming, Pauline babysat for more than 30 children, loving each one like her own; and many affectionately called her Grandma or Mawmaw. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, holiday candy making, and her most requested: cake decorating. Pauline supplied hundreds of beautifully decorated cakes for all occasions, her favorite being children's birthday cakes and wedding cakes.

They are survived by daughter, Vickie (Dennis) Zoulek of Marengo, Ohio; son, Richard Comer of Albany; daughter, Joy Bails of Albany; several grandchildren, Lori (Wes) Ramsey, Chris (Mahisha) Zoulek, Nicole (Stephen) Houser, and Emily Bails; and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Brooke.

Don is also survived by sister, Opal Cox; brother, Clyde (Judy) Comer; and sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson Comer.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Vancil Comer and Arnold Comer; brother-in-law, Eddie Cox; son-in-law, Daniel Bails and great-grandson, Hunter.

Pauline is also survived by sister, Joann Cox and brothers, Roger Puckett, Robert Puckett, and Jeffery Puckett.

Besides her parents, Pauline was preceded in death four days prior by husband Don of 63 years. He was waiting for her at Heaven's gate. She was also preceded in death by brothers Kenneth Puckett, Ronald Puckett, and infant brothers Rodney and James; son-in-law Daniel Bails, and great-grandson Hunter.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions of face covering and social distancing, private funeral services were held at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with Pastor Stephen T. Sparling officiating and burials at Temple Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Albany United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 74, Albany, Ohio 45710. A larger memorial service will be planned at a later date.
