The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning local residents of yet another scam using a governmental agency as a fake front.

The Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday that Jackson County residents have received email notifications from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for them to update their license information with a link to do so. Don’t do it -- these notifications are fraudulent.

The emails are deceptive as they include the Ohio Department of Transportation logo with an advisory that states the required update “is mandatory and must be done electronically” and do not offer any other means of contact.

“DO NOT click on the link,” a Sheriff’s Office spokesman warned. “The Ohio Department of Transportation would not require anyone to make updates online. This is a scam.”
