An expired license tag led to Jackson Police discovering heroin and other drug-related items in a parked vehicle during a late-night incident at the Jackson Walmart store parking lot.

At approximately 12 a.m. Monday, June 25, police spotted a parked sports utility vehicle in the Walmart parking lot with the motor running and three male occupants inside. Officers immediately determined the license tag had an expired registration sticker.

The lone back-seat passenger was identified as Shawn Warren, 37, whose address of record was 4382 Jisco West Road, Jackson. The driver was identified as Jonathan Mullins, 33, of 2085 John Hoops Road, Jackson, and the front-seat passenger as Mullins' brother, Jason Mullins, 35, also of 2085 John Hoops Road, Jackson.

Officers immediately noticed what was soon identified as bagged heroin on the back floorboard. In a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers found a backpack in the back seat with contained a loaded handgun, two sets of scales, eight syringes, and several baggies of the type often used to package drugs. Officers also found a total of $2,309 in cash in the back seat next to Warren.

Also on the back floorboard, officers found a pill bottle containing heroin and pack of cigarettes which contained both heroin and Oxycodone prescription pills. Officers also found two more syringes and three Suboxone strips on Warren's person. Officers later determined there were a total of eight grams of heroin confiscated from the vehicle.

Police said that Warren, who has previous drug-related convictions on his record, will be charged with having weapons under disability. He was also arrested on a warrant from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and was incarcerated in the Jackson County Correctional Facility. Jonathan Mullins was also arrested as he was wanted on warrants from both the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Gallia County Sheriff's Office. He was incarcerated in the Jackson County Correctional Facility on the Jackson County warrant. Jason Mullins was not arrested or charged.

Police say likely drug-related charges in the case will be reviewed by the office of Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Justin Lovett and could be considered by a future session of the Jackson County Grand Jury.
