Emergency responders were called to Jackson County Speedway on Sunday afternoon, April 4 after one of the drivers was injured in an accident while participating in “test and tune” practice session.

According to a Facebook message posted by Jackson County Speedway track owner Mark Andrus, sprint-car driver Hunter Young sustained burns to his feet and legs after mechanical failure occurred during the test and tune session.

Jackson County EMS initially responded and the Liberty Township Fire Township Fire Department was called in at 3:35 p.m. to set up a landing zone for a MedFlight helicopter, which then transported Young to a regional hospital. No other information was immediately available.

In his Facebook post, Andrus asked “our racing family” to keep Young in their prayers. “We never want to see these things happen,” Andrus posted. “I want to thank my track crew and fire personnel for doing what they do on race nights.”

Jackson County Speedway is located at 1245 Roberts Road in Liberty Township.
