The Christ United Methodist Church of Jackson has begun its summer Food and Fun program for the season. Food and Fun is available to all local children ages 18 and up, including their families. Activities will take place in the Family Life Center at 150 Portsmouth St. in Jackson.

This annual program, which started this summer on June 9, is a free meal service that provides all in need with fresh, warm meals throughout the summer until July 30. Food and Fun will be open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., with optional activities for younger attendants taking place from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. On June 22 – 24, 29, and July 6 and 20, they will be giving out lunches through a drive-thru service only.

This year, the Food and Fun program is funded by donations, whereas they are normally funded by their booth at the annual Apple Festival. Next year, the Christ United Methodist Church plans to go back to their normal means of funding.

The church’s theme for the children this year is “Heroes of the Bible,” where they will go over and discuss the brave and heroic events and people in the Bible. When asked, Hester Cosby of the Christ United Methodist Church said, “We hope to help supplement people’s food needs, and most importantly, we want to get kids to learn more about God.”
