The 65th Annual Wilkesville Fish Fry had many components as the event unfolded Saturday, July 30 in the village park area.

The meals everyone enjoyed consisted of fish, cole slaw, beans and bread. A new feature added this year was the Miss Wilkesville Contest, which was sponsored by the Wilkesville Fire Department. It was hosted by Constance White. The event also served as a fundraiser for the fire department.

The highlight of the day was the crowning of Queen Sammie Cottrill. Her court consists of Junior Miss Queen Georgia Todd, Little Miss Queen Brystol Graham, Junior Miss Princess Anna Davis, Little Miss Princess Aubree Sowers, and Princess Kylie Marculm. The Miss Congeniality award was presented to Hannah Pridemore. The court will be traveling to fairs, festivals, and parades around the area throughout the year.

There was also musical entertainment provided by Cyress Chesser, a senior at Vinton County High School (VCHS). He sings a wide range of songs and plays the guitar as well. Chesser has been in the VCHS Choral Shows and recently appeared as Cogsworth the Clock in the VCHS Drama Club performance of Beauty and the Beast. His music is heavily influenced by his father and grandfather and his ambition is to be a band director.

Another attraction was the Car Show. There were many cars and trucks lined up at the Wilton Community Center and there were also antique tractors on display at another part of the park. There were also many vendor booths on the grounds selling arts and crafts and many other items.

White thanked everyone for coming out and supporting the fire department and enjoying a day of community spirit and togetherness.
