The organizers of the annual Cereta Coll Senior Breakfast at Jackson High School (JHS) have figured out a different and safe way to conduct the event -- in spite of the restrictions which come with the coronavirus pandemic.

Each JHS Senior will be able to stop at The Downtown Treatery at 229 Broadway St. in downtown Jackson on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, May 21-23, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to pick-up their Senior Breakfast. Each senior will be able to choose a donut and a coffee or pop. Seniors will also be able to pick up their Senior Breakfast mementos.

The Cereta Coll Senior Breakfast is a tradition dating back to 1954 and was founded by longtime Jackson resident Cereta Coll; and was officially renamed in her honor in 1967 after her death. It is normally held at the JHS Commons on the morning of Commencement Ceremony.

With the COVID-19 pandemic putting a twist on the end of the school year, Cereta’s daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Wallace, Jackson Altrurian Women’s League and others did not want this special tradition missed.

An organizer added, “We are thankful for The Downtown Treatery helping to make it happen, although in a different fashion. To the 2020 seniors -- we celebrate you and wish you the best in all of your endeavors!”
