The Ohio Lions State Youth Committee showed their support of community youth by presenting their 2020 Jackson High School graduate and Jackson Leo Club member, Meranda Coleman, an “Ohio Lions Leo Scholarship” of $500.00. The committee presented Coleman with the scholarship in June 2020, but due to COVID-19, were unable to recognize her until May 22, 2021, at the Ohio Lions State Convention in Worthington, Ohio.

According to Darlene Roll, Ohio Lions State Youth Chair, “Meranda has set an excellent example for fellow students to follow and is a deserving recipient of this scholarship. Helping young people continue their education is one of the challenges our communities face, and it is a need our organization continues to address. We are also extraordinarily grateful for the support and contributions we received from Lions Club members throughout the state. You are helping us make a difference.”

In addition to the scholarship, the Ohio Lions State Youth Committee and Leo Clubs such as the Jackson Leo Club conduct a variety of projects and events, such as hunger relief projects, vision-related projects, environmental projects, diabetes-related activities, and fundraising events for pediatric cancer.

Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. Leo Clubs are sponsored by Lions Clubs and may be school or community-based clubs. Leo Club members are ages 12-18.
