The coronavirus crisis has understandably resulted in some unhappiness and worry among local residents, but Jackson McDonald’s Owner/Operator Brad Munn and his family stepped up this past Sunday, March 22, to spread some happiness in their own special way -- by giving away 200 Happy Meals at the Jackson location at 588 E. Main St., Jackson.

Predictably, there was a tremendous response and all 200 Happy Meals were given away in approximately 45 minutes in a makeshift drive-thru line in the gravel lot adjacent to the restaurant. Munn was joined by members of his family in the assembly line: his wife, Sarah, daughters Maddie and Abbey; and his parents, Rob and Georgina.

“We understand this is a trying time for everyone and we want to do our part to make it a little better,” Munn explained in a Facebook post announcing the giveaway. Based on the broad smiles on their faces in the pickup line, it appeared the Munns gained as much joy giving away the Happy Meals as the kids and their families did receiving them.

“We are blessed to have had the business we’ve had and we wanted to give something back,” Munn said after pronouncing the event a success.

Munn’s long track record of supporting civic and charitable causes led the Jackson Apple Festival Committee to name him as the festival’s grand marshal in 2019. However, he was quick to point out that the business and what it does to support the community is very much a family thing. He counts Sarah as a true partner and their two daughters are supportive as well. And before Brad took over, Rob was the owner/operator of the Jackson McDonald’s.

Munn says he is committed to do similar Happy Meal giveaways at his other local McDonald’s restaurants in Wellston, Oak Hill and McArthur.

However, the scheduling of these events is up in the air due to the coronavirus restrictions as the governor issued a stay-at-home order which took effect at midnight Monday. He wants to ensure there will be good turnouts because it’s safe to participate and there are no risks to the participants. He states he will make announcements when the events are scheduled.
