Ohio Public Employees Retirement System Board member Tim Steitz, CFA will be speaking at the Thursday, June 17 meeting of the Jackson County Chapter of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc. (PERI).

The meeting will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church at 245 E. Huron St. in Jackson. The meeting is open to all township, city, county, and state retired public employees and their spouses, beginning at 10 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. This will be the first in-person Jackson County PERI Chapter meeting since February of 2020.

Steitz will review the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and some of the possible changes that will impact retirees, including the proposed Cost-of -Living freeze. Steitz provides strong leadership, financial experience, and public retirement system operational knowledge to the OPERS Board.

Steitz is a former OPERS associate and was Assistant Director of Investments at the School Employees Retirement System of Ohio. Before that, he was an assistant auditor for the Auditor of State. He currently advises the student-managed investment portfolio at Ohio Wesleyan University, located in his home county of Delaware. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Market Technician. He received an MBA in Finance from the University of Akron and a BBA in Economics and Finance from Kent State University.

In addition to updates on the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System from Steitz, PERI District VII Representative Greg Ervin will review the healthcare funding reductions OPERS will implement starting in 2022, and the proposed suspension of the Cost-of-Living Allowance (COLA) for current retirees in 2022 and 2023.

This meeting will also serve as the District Annual Meeting and the election of a District Representative will be conducted. Chapter President Lawrence Gingerich invites all area Ohio Public Employee Retirement System members and their spouses to attend the Thursday, June 17 PERI meeting.
