Well-known Jackson County resident Robert (Bob) Ervin (pictured) was very surprised last Saturday, Feb. 20, when his good friend, Mark Wood, delivered 68 birthday cards to him in honor of his 85th birthday. Through Facebook, Wood had organized a card shower and Ervin’s many friends and admirers responded in a big way. Ervin, a lifelong Jackson area resident and a retired Jackson High School social studies teacher, is perhaps best-known for his longstanding dedication to researching, writing and preserving Jackson County’s history. He has written multiple books on Jackson County’s history and been an active leader and member of local historical organizations.
