Wellston Rotary postpones Bean/Chili Dinner till Saturday, Feb. 27

The forecast for cold temperatures on Saturday, Feb. 20 prompted the Wellston Rotary Club to postpone its Bean and Chili Dinner from that date to the following Saturday, Feb. 27. The event will be held at the former Pants Factory Lot on Second Street in Wellston across from The Depot – from 12 to 5 p.m. A suggested donation of $5 will include soup, crackers and a beverage. All sales will be "to-go” only. Masks and social distancing will be practiced. Proceeds will go for community projects and the Wellston High School Rotary Scholarship Fund. Beverages will be donated by “The Store” and Gem Bottling of Wellston. The soups will be prepared on site in cast-iron kettles over an open fire.

Annual Boy Scouts Troop 57 Spaghetti Dinner at Hope UMC March 13

Come join members of Boy Scouts Troop 57 as they host their annual Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 13 – drive-up or delivery only, from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. at Hope United Methodist Church, 219 East First St., Wellston, Ohio. Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp postpones Family Hiking Day; reset for Saturday, March 20

Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp has postponed its Family Hiking Day event, which had been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27 and it has been reset for Saturday, March 20. The date change was made due to the hiking trails not being in very good condition following the recent winter weather. Organizers promise “an afternoon of camping favorites,” including guided hikes, s’mores, hot chocolate, coffee, campfire and an open canteen. Also, Harrison-Powell Lodge and Foundation Lodge will be open so visitors can view updates made since the last camping season. Admission is $5 with kids ages 5 and younger admitted free. Band Boosters to meet in JHS Band Room March 1

The Jackson Band Boosters will meet Monday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in the JHS Band Room. All parents of band students in grades 6-12 are urged to attend the meeting.  Masks are required.  Business discussion will include the Valentine Raffle Wrap-up, Scholarships Committee, Nominating Committee, Spring Fling Auction, Disney Trip, and plans for the end of the school year.  If any parent has a donation left over from 2020 Bingo or Spring Fling, please bring those items.

Wellston Library announces complete schedule of hours

The Sylvester Memorial Wellston Public Library will be open Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “We are happy to welcome our patrons back to Saturdays!” a library spokesman said. “Also, we are pleased to return to regular operating hours beginning Monday, March 1. The library hours are Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.”

Jackson County Fair Flea Market at Fairgrounds set for April 17

The Jackson County Fair Board is planning to host an event -- being called the Jackson County Fair Flea Market at the Jackson County Fairgrounds -- at 96 Meadow Run Road in Wellston on Saturday, April 17 beginning at 8 a.m. Vendor spots are available at a cost of $10 for a 10-foot-by-10-foot space. Sts. Peter and Paul School conducting Pot of Gold Reverse Raffle

Sts. Peter and Paul School in Wellston is currently conducting its annual Pot of Gold Raffle, which is an important fundraising project for the private school. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 17 and ticket buyers – the cost is $50 for each ticket – will have the opportunity in a reverse raffle format to win cash, including the grand prize of $5,000. Those who purchase tickets by Friday, Feb. 5 will be entered in a special Early Bird drawing for a $50 cash prize. Tickets can be purchased from any Sts. ‘Cares Closet’ established to support WHS students

The Wellston High School (WHS) Student Advisory, made up of members of the WHS Student Council and WHS National Honor Society, is creating a "Cares Closet" for students at WHS. A spokesperson explained: “It is our goal for all students at WHS to have access to items they need on a daily basis. These items are: Soaps, lotions, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry detergent, razors, towels, and some clothing. The Care Closet will be open every Friday during lunch.”

‘Take and Make String Art Craft’ at Wellston Library

Feeling crafty? Stop by the Sylvester Memorial Wellston Public Library to pick up a String Art kit. The kit will be available beginning Jan. 25, with your choice of a snowflake or heart, while supplies last. Each kit includes the wooden frame with pegs, string and instructions. This activity is great for all crafting skill levels. You must be 18 years old and have a valid Wellston Public Library card to participate. Don’t have a library card? First Presbyterian Church of Wellston pausing sanctuary services due to COVID

LIVE-STREAMING TO CONTINUE SUNDAYS, 10 A.M.

Due to the current surge of local COVID-19 cases and Jackson County being designated as a Level-3 (Red) county, the First Presbyterian Church of Wellston will “pause” worship services in the sanctuary. However, we will stream our sermons “live” each Sunday at 10 a.m. If you have any prayer requests, please feel free to post them on the church’s Facebook page.   Also, please mail your gifts and offerings to: The First Presbyterian Church, 18 S.
