Howard C. McDonald

Howard C. McDonald, 98, of Tampa, Florida, passed away Sept. 3, 2017.

Howard was born in Walhalla, S.C. Howard served in the U.S. 5th Army Air Corps before and during WW II. Howard was stationed in Papua, New Guinea in the South Pacific during WW II. He was a crew member of the famed Grim Reapers 3rd Bombardment/Attack Group 8th Squadron. His military record with an interview and photos are contained in the records of the Veteran's History Project on file with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and available online.

He returned from the War and married Dorothy Royal of Shelby, MI. Howard became the President of the Oceana Canning Company, Shelby, MI. He was also Past President of the Michigan Food Processors Association. Howard and Dorothy retired to Tampa, FL. Howard enjoyed most sports, especially baseball (Tigers and Rays), golf and building experimental aircraft. He was an avid pilot and ham radio operator.

Howard was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy McDonald and daughter, Dotte David (Ray). He is survived by his sister, Martha Pownall (Mark), Toledo, OH; daughter, M.J. McDonald (Lilly), Tampa; and son, Howard Brian McDonald (Melanie), Oak Hill, OH.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 at Loyless Funeral Home, 5310 Land O'Lakes Blvd., Land O'Lakes, FL. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shelby, MI will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children (www.shrinerhospitalsfor children.org) or Army Emergency Relief (www.aerhq.org).
