60 year celebration of 1957 Golden Rockets

Members from the Wellston Golden Rockets' 1957 football team, the last team to go undefeated was honored 60th year anniversary at C.H. Jones Field on Friday night. The Rockets finished 9-0 overall that season and was 7-0 in the SEOAL. The Golden Rockets dominated the entire season, from start to finish, closing the season with wins over Nelsonville, Athens and Jackson. The 1957 Rockets were loaded with unbelieveable and were coached by one of the best coaches in Wellston hisotry in Joe Malmisur. Team members present (L-R) are Steve Scott, Gary Cundiff, Tom Montgomery, Frank Hill, Ron Cheatwood, Dana Bush, Jake Potts, Gary Gould, Jon Hendershott and Jim Evans. OAK HILL - The Oak Hill Oaks made a statement Friday night in their Southern Ohio Conference Division I game against the Symmes Valley Vikings shutting them out 41-0 on homecoming night at Davis Stadium. Katie Moore was crowned as the Queen during half time ceremony.

GIRLS SOCCER: Ironladies get another FAC win at home
JACKSON - The Jackson Ironladies soccer team returned home Thursday evening and defeated Miami Trace 3-1 to earn their fourth win in the Frontier Athletic Conference of the season.

BOYS SOCCER: Ironmen win 4-1 in FAC soccer match at home against Miami Trace
JACKSON - The Jackson Ironmen played well in their 4-1 Frontier Athletic Conference win over the Miami Trace Thursday evening at Alumni Stadium. It was a big night for Jackson forward Michael Benson who turned a hat trick while Wyatt Hemsley scored the other goal.

OAK HILL - After an O-8 start the Vinton County Lady Vikings picked up their first win of the 2017 volleyball season Monday evening with a four-game victory over the Oak Hill Lady Oaks taking the nonleague encounter18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 at Oak Hill High School.

A late comeback fell short for the Vinton County Vikings as they fell 28-20 to the Fairfield Union Falcons in a non-conference football game. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 1-2 while Fairfield improves to 2-1.
