OAK HILL - The Wellston Lady Rockets volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit to capture a five-set (26-24, 22-25, 16-25, 25-20, 15-6) victory on the road at Oak Hill on Monday evening.
Behind 18 kills and three blocks from senior middle hitter Tressa Lambert, the Lady Rockets improved to 8-11 on the season.
Kelli Aubrey also had a superb performance with seven kills, and Sadie Henry added six for Wellston.
Setters Nevaeh Ousley and Kamryn Karr each recorded double figures in assists with 22 and 13, respectively.
Defensively, the Lady Rockets had 104 digs in the win, as four players finished in double figures. Sydney Mullins and Molly Smith paced Wellston with 26 digs each, while Madison Mullins added 13, and Shai Brandau had 10.
In the opening set, Wellston led 24-21 before Oak Hill rallied to tie the score 24-24, after a kill by Beth Eiring, followed by a service ace by Baylee Howell and a kill by Chloe Chambers. However, Wellston capitalized on a pair of attack errors by the Lady Oaks to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Rockets jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the second set, but Oak Hill used a 10-4 run to tie it at 12-12. There were five more ties at 13, 14, 18, 19, and 21 before three Wellston errors gave Oak Hill the win and evened the match at 1-1.
Oak Hill led from start to finish in the third set with Caitlyn Brisker leading the way with four kills and one block. The Lady Oaks won 25-16 and never trailed to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
All the momentum shifted in the fourth set that had six ties and three lead changes. Lambert had six kills to keep the match alive, as the Lady Rockets went on to win 25-16.
Oak Hill and Wellston battled back and forth to open the deciding fifth set. Lambert added two kills, and the Lady Rockets broke a 6-6 tie on an attack error by Oak Hill. Wellston held serve the rest of the way, finishing on a 9-0 run to take the set and the match.
The Lady Oaks, who dropped to 2-17 on the season, were led by Brisker with 13 kills and four blocks.
Wellston was back in action on Tuesday at Miller and will take on Meigs on senior night on Thursday at home. The Lady Oaks celebrated senior night on Tuesday against South Webster and will close out the regular season on Thursday at Northwest.
