PORTSMOUTH - Overall, it was a good two days for the Jackson Ironladies tennis team at the Division II sectional tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday in Portsmouth.
Second singles player Mackenzie Humphreys advanced to the District Tournament with three wins including a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ironton's Katelyn Caskey, followed by a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cadie Jenkins of Wheelersburg on Tuesday.
After losing to Sylvia Gray of Unioto 0-6, 0-6 on Wednesday, she clinched a spot in the district tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 win over E. Timmons of Circleville. She then lost to Portsmouth's Avery Wolfe 4-6, 0-6 to place her in the sixth seed in next week's district tournament at Ohio University.
After earning a bye in the first round on Tuesday, first singles player Sydney Humphreys fell 3-6, 6-6 (5-7) in a tiebreaker to Jennifer Richards of Washington Court House.
Playing in Jackson's third singles, Josie Ball got a win over Cameron Butcher of Miami Trace in the first round 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, before losing to Wheelersburg's Lea Wright 6-2, 6-4.
The Ironladies No. 1 doubles team earned a first-round victory, as the duo of Trinity Montgomery and Lillie Houser defeated Kenzie Adams and Johanna Holt of Hillsboro 6-1, 6-0. They then lost to Logan Elm's Makayla McDaniel and Kara Lutz 0-6, 1-6.
The No. 2 doubles team of Leslie Bragg and Caitlin Camp lost in the first round against Waverly's Mackenzie Penrod and Keyleah Shiland 1-6, 4-6.
District Tournament play will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Ohio University.
