OAK HILL - The Oak Hill Oaks overcame a slow start Friday night at Davis Stadium and went on to smash the Northwest Mohawks 53-0 in a SOC Division I contest.
Oak Hill improved their overall record 5-2 overall and remain unbeaten in division play at 3-0. Northwest is still looking its for their first win of the season as they drop to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the division.
By games end, Oak Hill rolled up 381 yards on the ground and 13 through the air, while limiting the Mohawks to minus-21 yards rushing and 42 yards passing for 21 total yards.
"I don't know if we came into this game overconfident or what," said Oak Hill head coach Nathan Dugan after the contest. "Our defense played well while our offense made a few mistakes, but we went into the half up 21-0. After making a few minor adjustments, everything seemed to fall together in the second half."
Northwest opened the game with the ball, and picked up a first down, but ended up punting. Unfortunately for them, Cayden Harden broke through to block the punt and was recovered by Noah Donley at the 6-yard line.
Bayley Clutters scored on the first play from scrimmage and the Harden point after made it 7-0 with 7:55 left in the first quarter. That score was all Oak Hill would need to secure the win.
While Northwest could do nothing offensively, the Oaks turned the ball over on their next two possessions on a fumble and interception. Those mistakes allowed the first quarter to end with Oak Hill leading by the slim 7-0 margin.
With the Mohawks offense completely shut down, Oak Hill would score their next two touchdowns on the next two possessions. Walker Smith scored on a beautiful 47-yard scamper to culminate a four-play, 70-yard drive, and then Oak Hill went 78 yards on their next possession, highlighted by runs of 19, 22, and 15 yards by Collin Hughes, Clutters, and Bradey Chandler. Clutters went the final two yards with the Harden kick making it 21-0 with less than a minute to play in the first half.
As far as the second half, it was almost a duplicate of the first as the Oak Hill offense and defense continued to control both sides of the ball. Oak Hill had the ball three times in the third quarter scoring on each possession.
Walker scored his second touchdown of the game on a 7-yard run ending another four-play drive. The kick was no good, and it was 27-0 Oaks. Following punts on the next two Northwest possessions, Collin Hughes raced 78 yards on the first play from scrimmage, then following another Mohawk punt, Clutters scored on a 45-yard touchdown run to make it 40-0.
A fumble recovery set up a 9-yard touchdown run by Tristan Diltz with Brock Harden adding the extra point to make it 47-0.
Diltz scored again from 21 yards out to close out the scoring with 7:12 remaining in the game.
Hughes led all Oak Hill rushers with 132 yards on just five carries, while Clutters added 124 on 12 totes. Smith finished with 95 yards on five carries and Diltz ran for 30 on two attempts.
Oak Hill will return to action next week for their final road game of the year at Sciotoville to face the East Tartans in a SOC Division I contest.
