5/21/2018 8:10:00 PM COOPERSTRONG already
with nearly 350 participants
Interest is once again strong, and participation is expected to be high once again for the 3rd Annual COOPERSTRONG 5K Run/Walk, scheduled for Saturday morning, May 26 in Jackson. Nearly 350 participants have already registered, but it's never too late to join in.
The event is held in memory of the late Emileigh Cooper, a 2012 graduate of Jackson High School (JHS) and an outstanding scholar-athlete at both JHS and Marshall University. After graduating from Marshall, she had been hired to be the head coach of the Ironladies varsity softball team in 2016, but was killed in a traffic highway crash in February 2016. Her aunt, Kellina Cooper-Snyder, founded and organized the COOPERSTRONG 5K event to celebrate her life and to raise money for the JHS softball program. The slogan for this year's event is "Where Red and Green come together" in honor of Emileigh's connection to both JHS and Marshall.
The 5K will begin at the Jackson Middle School parking lot, located at 21 Tropic St. Registration for the event opens at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, with the race start time of 8:12 a.m. Registration is $20 a runner or $15 for a current student-athlete. The event will end at the Jackson High School softball field.
Prior to the start of the race, participants can partake in free coffee, bagels and donuts. Proceeds of the event will go to The Emileigh Jo Cooper Memorial Fund that will be supporting Emileigh's teams, her Jackson High School Softball Homerun-Hitting Team and her Jackson Middle School Basketball Team.
"We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our family and friends, our church and to our Jackson community during the last two years," Kellina Cooper-Snyder stated on behalf of the Cooper family. "Your kindness and compassion seem to never fail us. Yes, life is different and of course it's hard since Emileigh went to be with her Lord. Our hearts have a hole that will never be filled. There's no doubt that the love and support we feel during the COOPERSTRONG make our hearts swell with pride."
The Cooper family deeply appreciates the overwhelming support and response to COOPERSTRONG and hopes it continues this year.
"Emileigh would have been so proud of every single person involved in this event," Cooper-Snyder continued. "We encourage everyone to slow your daily pace down. Take time to look around and enjoy the little things in life. Tackle each day with a prayer, a smile and confidence to be your best. Enjoy your family and friends through the good times and bad. Take a moment each day to hug and kiss those you love, as you're not promised tomorrow. Sometimes when life seems empty and we feel alone, we discover the importance of the kindness and generosity of others. Thank you, COOPERSTRONG supporters, in this dark and very difficult time for our family."
Following the 5K event, participants will have the opportunity to remain at the Jackson High School softball diamond to enjoy a post-race snack, music, and the annual JHS Alumni Softball Tournament. Immediately following the race there will be a check presentation of the donations from the Cooper family to Em's softball and basketball teams.
To register, please e-mail: Kellina Cooper-Snyder at email@example.com or call or text 614-395-1228 or you may register the day of the race.
