OAK HILL - The Oak Hill Lady Oaks hosted the Portsmouth West Lady Senators on Saturday afternoon at Oak Hill High School and posted a 58-47 SOC Division II win.
Oak Hill opened the game scoring the first six points and was never challenged en route to the win. The Lady Senators went nearly half the quarter before scoring their first basket when Morgan Rigsby got a putback with 4:23 showing on the first quarter clock.
Following her basket, Oak Hill reeled off seven unanswered points for a 13-2 advantage. Makayla White ended the scoring drought with just 25 seconds remaining in the first quarter just prior to a Caitlyn Brisker's basket that gave Oak Hill a 15-4 lead after the first eight minutes of action.
Payton Crabtree opened the second quarter with a short jumper from the lane extending the lead to 17-4, but Oak Hill went almost two minutes without a basket.
Portsmouth West, however, scored six straight points to make it 17-10. Brisker ended the Oak Hill drought with a layup. Then the Lady Oaks outscored West 13-10 during the remainder of the stanza to lead 30-20 at halftime.
The 10-point lead stretched to 13 by the end of the third quarter, 47-34, as Oak Hill outscored Portsmouth West 17-14.
Oak Hill opened the quarter with a 6-0 run extending the lead to 36-20 but saw the Lady Senators close on a 14-11 scoring edge to trailed by a 13-point margin.
The Lady Oaks maintained their double-digit lead throughout the first four minutes of the fourth quarter before West put together an 8-2 run closing to within 52-47. However, it was as close as the visitors would get as Oak Hill ended on a 6-0 run to win the game by 11 points.
Payton Miller led Oak Hill and all scorers with a season-high 16 points while Brisker added 14 with Bailey Ward had nine.
Three Lady Senators finished in double digits led by Abbi Pack with 15 points followed by Jordan Coleman with 13 and Michaela White with 10.
The Lady Oaks returned to action on Monday at home against Glenwood New Boston.
