A total of 14 volleyball players in The Telegram coverage area were named to the 2017 District 13 Coaches Association volleyball teams in their respective division.

The Jackson Ironladies and the Wellston Lady Rockets earned five selections each, while Vinton County had three and Oak Hill one.

The Ironladies, however, had two first-team selections, one second team and two honorable mention honorees in Division II, while Wellston had one, who earned second-team honors and four honorable mention picks in Division III.

Also, Vinton County had one selected to the second-team and two on honorable mention in Division II, while Oak Hill garnered one honorable mention pick in Division III.

For the Ironladies, seniors Olivia Carroll and Melinda Ruggles were named on the all-district first team in Division II. It was a step up for both Carroll and Ruggles, who were second-team picks a year ago.

Earning second-team honors for the Ironladies is sophomore Abbey Munn, while junior Gracie Walburn and senior Mariah Ridgeway were both honorable mention selections.

The Ironladies finished in second-place in their inaugural season in the newly formed Frontier Athletic Conference with a 6-4 record. They had a mark of 15-8 overall.

Additionally, Vinton County was led by sophomore Josie Hembree, who was named to the second-team, while junior Lacy Stapleton and senior Rebecca Clemons were honorable mention choices in Division II.

The Lady Vikings finished 3-20 overall and 1-11 in TVC Ohio Division play.

Ashton Webb of Gallia Academy and Serena Smith of Athens were named the Division II offensive and defensive players of the year, while Gallia Academy's Janice Rosler was tabbed as Coach of the year.

In Division III, Wellston's top honoree is junior Sydney Mullins, who led the Lady Rockets in digs as the starting libero.

The Lady Rockets also had four honorable mention selections, including seniors Lillie Stanley, Hannah Stewart, Madison Stewart and junior Kelli Aubrey.

Wellston ended its 2017 campaign with an overall mark of 10-13 and 4-8 in Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division play, as it finished in fifth-place in the final conference standings.

Oak Hill had only one selection in Division III, as sophomore Caitlyn Brisker was an honorable mention pick for the Lady Oaks.

The offensive player of the year was awarded to Lexi Wise of Ironton, while Nelsonville-York's Jessie Addis was named defensive player of the year.

Three coaches shared the coach of the year award, including Beth Campbell of Ironton, Rebecca Creemens of Chesapeake and Nikki Ohms of Alexander.
