Shawnee State women's basketball get 94-69 win over West Virginia Tech
Jonathon Loughridge
SSU Sports Informtion

Portsmouth, Ohio - Shawnee State women's basketball won their third straight on Saturday evening, defeating West Virginia Tech 94-69.

SSU would immediately get off to a good start as the Bears would have a two-possession lead before West Virginia Tech even got the ball. Lydia Poe would get fouled in the post, and after hitting the first free throw would miss the second, rebounded by Shania Massie. Massie would hit a corner three to get Shawnee State up 4-0. Massie would hit on the next trip down for the Bears to give SSU a 7-0 lead. Shawnee State would never trail after getting off to this hot start, and would hold a 21-13 advantage after one quarter.

The second quarter would be more of a slog as West Virginia Tech would slow the game down. A Brittney Justice made basket with 2:36 to go to halftime would tie the game at 30-30. Shawnee State would push out into the lead again, as Leah Wingeier would score over Savannah Shamblin's foul and hit a free throw to give Shawnee State a 33-30 lead. The Bears would close the half up 41-35 after a tough half of basketball.

Shawnee State would come out scorching hot in the second half. A Madison Ridout made three and a Poe basket in the post would put Shawnee State up 11, their first double-digit lead of the afternoon. Hannah Miller would then take over, scoring 22 second half points to score a career-high 31, pushing the lead to eventually 30 points in the fourth quarter. Shawnee State would see out the win, defensively locking down to win 94-69.

Miller's 31 career points led all scorers. Lydia Poe added a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Madison Ridout added 19 points, and Shania Massie and Bailey Cummins each added 10.

Brittney Justice had 13 points to lead West Virginia Tech.

The win improves Shawnee State's record to 3-0 on the young season. West Virginia Tech falls to 1-1. Shawnee State improves to 13-1 in the all-time series.
