Two teams looking to even their seasonal logs will square off Friday night as Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division foes the Vinton County Vikings and River Valley Raiders do battle at the Viking Athletic Complex.
The Raiders are entering the game coming off a 27-15 win over Alexander a week ago. The Raiders also hold wins over: Eastern (27-0); South Point (25-8). Vinton County enter the contests fresh off a 48-8 homecoming win over Federal Hocking. The Raiders have lost to Gallia Academy (49-7); Nelsonville York (49-7); Meigs (45-28). If the Vikings can pull of the win, they will enter their final two games against Nelsonville York and Wellston (Senior Night) on an even keel. The Vikings are looking to avenge a 41-6 loss suffered last season.
This contest could be a good match between the much improved Viking secondary and the sharp-throwing Raider offense. Last week against the Spartans, it was a big night for Raider Quarterback Patrick Brown. He tossed a couple touchdown passes - in a 27-6 win. . The Viking defensive unit was also tough as Jacob Wells received an interception for a touchdown. Additionally, Will Arthur, Donnie Stevens also picked off Lancer passes. On the ground, the Raiders will count on Jarret McCarley for both his running yardage and pass catching. The Raiders have a quick moving offensive attack as well.
The Vikings will be looking for leadership from quarterback Naylan Yates. Last week in the homecoming contest who threw well last week--, including a 15 yard scamper for a score, He has been a mainstay throughout the season. Also, it was a big week for Wells on offense as he caught a 38-yard touchdown pass thrown by Lincoln Hayes.
