ALBANY - Jackson's Mazie Wechter took fourth out of 98 runners to lead the Jackson Ironladies cross country team to a fifth-place team finish at the Spartan Invitational last Wednesday at Lake Snowden in Albany.
The Ironladies finished tied with host Alexander with 114 points. Athens won the nine-team meet with 31 points.
Wechter completed the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 55.61 seconds. Athens' Rebekah Shoup won the race in 19:43.87.
Becky Bergertt was the Jackson's No. 2 runner, taking 24th in 23:32.50.
Brandy Sickler was the Ironladies' third runner to cross the finish line in 32nd-place (24:08.12), while Kierstyn Hammer (34th, 24:28.98) and Jacqueline Bragg (55th, 26:46.83) rounded out the teams' top five.
Haley Patterson (27:00.57) and Olivia Sheward (27:49.79) were 56th and 64th respectively.
Vinton County, who was led by Darcy Williams, did not bring their top-five runners to the event.
Williams cross the finish line in 37th-place with a time of 24:36.77. Ryann Ramey was the Lady Vikings' second runner to cross in 25:03.30 for 41st-place in a time of 25:03.30.
Olivia Wells finished in 48th-place in a time of 26:03.73, while Abrianna McManis (51st, 26:13.64) and Kelsey Beyer (70th, 28:09.23) rounded out Vinton County's top-five runners.
Kira McManis (30:16.15) and Elena Ramey (31:08.01) finished 80th and 82nd respectively.
In addition, Oak's Hill's lone runner Bailey Ward finished in 18th-place in a time of 22:28.58.
In the boys' race, which featured 12 teams, Wellston finished in 10th with 261 points, while Jackson was 12th with 296 points. Athens won the team race with 39 points.
Wellston's Justen Anderson posted a 15th-place individual finish out of 125 runner to lead the Golden Rockets cross country team in a time of 18 minutes, 23.25 seconds.
Following Anderson, Zack Nadler clocked in at 20:15.27, good enough for 53rd place, followed by Michael Hiller (76th, 21:21.35), Nathaniel Petrie (87th, 22:05.07) and Darien Flanner (123rd, 27:58.59).
Jackson's Keelan Kilgour led the Ironmen with a 52nd-place finish in a time of 20:13.23. Jake Simpkins was the next Jackson runner to cross the finish line in 63rd in a time of 20:40.05, while Mitchell Ogdin (64th, 20:40.34), William Howard (113th, 25:36.31) and Morgan Bridges (120th, 26:55.91) rounded out the Ironmen's top-five runners. Adam Sheward finished in 124th-place in 28:06.12 for Jackson.
Oak Hill did not field a complete team, which was led by Tate Aldridge with a 62nd-place finish in 20:36.75, while Logan Hines came in 75th in a time of 21:11.41. Austin Dean (21:38.13) and Ian Roush (22:08.31) finished 80th and 89th respectively for the Oaks.
Wellston and Vinton County will participate in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division Championships on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Wellston High School.
