The Vinton County Vikings look to win the 2017 homecoming contest Friday night as they aspire to take their third win when hosting Federal Hocking Lancers.
The Lancers enter the game with 0-6 mark as they have lost to: Alexander (42-6), South Gallia (42-6), Belpre (51-0), Eastern (35-14); Wahama (28-8); Southern (55-14). The Lancers enter the game looking to drop a 28-game losing streak spanning back to the 2014 season
While it has been a tough go for the Lancers, they do have the ability to move the ball at times.
Last week against Southern Racine, Quarterback Hunter Smith was successful on two touchdown strikes. One was a 69-yard touchdown pass, to Branden Gould, while the other was a 36-yard toss to Trevor Bell. The Lancers, though, are averaging seven points a game while giving up 42.1. Vinton County has been involved in some close games but are 2-4 on the season.
For the Vikings, they are looking to building upon last week's win at Alexander and get ready for the stretch run of the Tri-Valley Conference. Quarterback Naylan Yates had the hot hand again in the big win over Alexander. He ran for a 70 yard touchdown while throwing for others. Overall, he was 7-18 through the air. It was also a big night for receiver Hunter Nichols who had three pass receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown.
This is also a good opportunity for the Viking defense to get a good pass rush and keep the Lancer offensive attack in check After the Lancers, the Vikings will be entering the tail end of their season with games against River Valley at home, Nelsonville York on the road and Welston at home,
Additionally during halftime ceremonies, the homecoming queen and king will be crowned. The senior queen candidates are Sarah White, Kelsey Ward, and Trisha Kirby while the king contestants are Naylan Yates, Cameron Poe, Dakota Johnson and Seth Nicholson
The game will be broadcast on WRYO 98.7-FM and will be streamed around the world on mixlr.com and search for WRYO.
