PORTSMOUTH - Jackson's Connor Radune has been tough to beat on the tennis court.
Radune is 12-0 in the regular season at the No. 1 singles slot for the Ironmen with one regular season match left to be played against Gallia Academy on Monday, May 15.
Now he has capped a dominant showing in the Southeast District Sectional Tournament in Division II this week at Shawnee State University.
The Jackson High School senior finished as the sectional runner-up out of 65 competitors after losing for the first time this season in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 against Juan Navas of Miami Trace in the championship match.
Radune improved to 17-1 this spring, as he heads into his third consecutive district tournament on Saturday, May 20 at Ohio University in Athens.
After winning his first three matches in tournament play, Radune won easily over Ken Upthegrove of Washington Court House in the quarterfinal round 6-1, 6-3.
Radune then earned a berth to the championship match after defeating Brandon Nibert of Waverly 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Jackson's Caden Southard, along with Blake Wyatt, who ends with a match record of 13-2 on the season, were both eliminated in the third round in the singles division.
The Ironmen's No. 1 doubles team of Travis Stevens and Zayne Warrens were also eliminated in the third round, while the No. 2 doubles team of Madison Ephlin and Mason Sheets went out in the second round.
Up next, the Ironmen will play for the outright SEOAL championship. However, a loss would result in a three-way tie for the league title between Gallia Academy, Jackson and Logan.
The Ironmen are currently 4-1 in the league, while Logan is 4-2 and Gallia Academy is 3-2.
