JACKSON - The Oak Hill Lady Oaks advanced to the championship round of the Division III sectional tournament at Jackson High School, after soundly defeating the Meigs Lady Marauders 83-37 Wednesday evening.
Oak Hill will face the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers at 4:30 p.m., which defeated the Rock Hill Redwomen 58-52 in overtime in the other semifinal.
These two teams met were in the district final last year at the Convocation Center in Athens that was won by the Lady Oaks, 39-38 in overtime.
This game was decided early although Meigs did put together a short run that wilted as quickly as it started, because of the Lady Oaks defensive pressure.
By games end Oak Hill (18-3) forced 33 Meigs turnovers, which shot 43.7 percent (14 of 32) from the field. The Lady Oaks made 36 of 74 (48.6 percent) shots from the field.
Oak Hill opened the game with a 10-0 run and Meigs (3-18) did not get on the scoreboard until Morgan Russell scored on a layup with 5:22 left.
The Lady Marauders scored baskets on back-to-back possessions to close within 12-6, before Oak Hill closed with a 14-0 down the stretch to extend its lead to 26-6.
The Lady Oaks outscored Meigs 20-9 in the second stanza to push the lead to an insurmountable 46-15 advantage at the break.
Oak Hill limited Meigs to just 12 shot attempts in the first half and forced 22 turnovers.
Taylor Hale's 23 points, led four Oak Hill players in double figures. Breanna Butler finished with 22 points; Abby Haislop added 14 and Paige Roseberry had 10 for the Lady Oaks.
Oak Hill senior Lakin Caudill, who hasn't played in a month after suffering a knee injury saw limited action for the Lady Oaks on Wednesday, as she came up with several good defensive players and dished out several assists.
Danielle Cullums led Meigs with 12 points, while Kelsey Hudson and Brooke Andrus chipped in with seven and six points respectively.
The Lady Oaks will tip-off against Zane Trace Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
