Writer's Note: This is the final part of a two-part story centered on the topic of ever-increasing crime and the lack of local jail space in Jackson County. A discussion held during the Tuesday, Nov. 21 meeting of the Jackson County Commissioners between a number of local leaders included a breakdown of some of the area's problems, as well as a number of possible solutions.

The Vinton County Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Garage and Office Building, located on State Route 93 near Dundas, was heavily damaged as the result of a fire Friday morning, Dec.8 at approximately 5 a.m.

Auditor Yost calls on Commerce Department to suspend issuance of Marijuana Cultivator Licenses
Auditor of State Dave Yost has called on the Commerce Department to suspend the issuance of Level 1 cultivator's licenses for medical marijuana following media reports that one of the application graders was a convicted drug dealer.

JFS aiming for spring ballot
In light of the fact that Jackson County was the only county in the state to not pass a children services levy during the latest general election, with a total of 12 others passing, Jackson County Job and Family Services (JFS) Director Tammy Osborne-Smith has shifted her focus to that of a second attempt this coming spring.

Jackson County Land Bank awarded grant
Lee Hubbard, Chairman of the Jackson County Land Reutilization Corporation (the Land Bank), is pleased to announce that the Land Bank has been approved for $300,000 in demolition funding through the Neighborhood Initiative Program (NIP) of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.

The Vinton County Sheriff's Office has reported that a 911 call was received on Monday, Dec. 4 at about 2:45 p.m., from a gentleman who advised that a mobile home had fallen on a subject.

Young woman dies following car vs buggy crash in Pike County
