Monday Crash On SR 32
The seemingly dangerous intersection of State Routes 32 and 139 just south of Jackson was the scene of another injury-related crash late Monday afternoon, May 21.
According to the Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Impala car driven by Christopher Montgomery, 37, of Oak Hill failed to yield from a stop sign on State Route 139 while crossing State Route 32. Montgomery's car was struck in the right side by an eastbound 2002 For F150 pickup truck driven by Thomas Wendel, 60, of Beaver.
Both drivers were transported from the scene by Jackson County EMS to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson with non-life-threatening injuries. Safety belts were being used by both drivers and Montgomery was cited for failure to yield. The highway remained open while the scene was processed by the on-scene investigators.
"This particular intersection has been the site of many injuries and fatal crashes," a State Highway Patrol spokesman commented. "The Highway Patrol asks that everyone please take that extra few seconds to ensure you are safe to proceed. Please remove or limit any distractions while you are driving. We are hopeful that the upcoming Memorial Holiday Weekend is a happy and safe one for everyone."
Tuesday Crash On U.S. 35
The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one-vehicle commercial injury crash that occurred Tuesday, May 22 at approximately 1 a.m. on U.S. Route 35 in Jackson County at or near the Bronx Corner Road intersection, one mile east of the Ross County line.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a red, 2015 Volvo semi-tractor pulling a box trailer was being operated by Thair L. Matti, 47, of Warren, Michigan. The tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 35 when the driver lost control. The vehicle then traveled off the left side of the roadway, entering the median before traveling back onto the roadway and overturning. It then came to rest on its side in the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 35.
Matti received minor injuries and was transported to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson by Jackson County EMS. He was treated and then released.
U.S. Route 35 was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was cleared. The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.
Matti was not wearing a safety belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
All motorists are urged to wear their safety belts and to not drink and drive, especially with the upcoming Memorial Day holiday approaching.
