Wellston Board hires firm for roof project design

RED THOMPSON, JR.
Staff Writer

The Wellston City Schools Board of Education voted to hire the Baltimore-based Prime AE Group to perform design work for the middle school and high school buildings' roof replacement remediation project.

During the board's meeting of Monday, Nov. 13, Superintendent Karen Boch told the board members the district has been taking requests for qualifications and three companies responded. As the qualifications were reviewed, it was determined the Prime AE group was the best option.

According to the company's website, the firm provides a full range of engineering services in transportation, civil, structural, water resources engineering and technology, as well as construction management, construction inspection and architecture.

Boch told the board she was scheduled to have a phone conference with them Tuesday. She wants as quick a time table as possible to complete the work. The superintendent would like to have the bid package out by March or April but wants to ensure the job is done well so the board would not have to deal with the same issues again. Boch will revisit the issue and will be reporting more information to the board at upcoming meetings.

In other property issues, Boch reported there is still some surveying and assessment work going on at the proposed track site. When the report comes in, the superintendent will review it and see where the project stands. More fundraising is taking place and for continuing lists of those, check the Wellston City Schools social-media links. Additionally, she reported some boiler work in the high school gym is going well.

The board also had a busy evening as far as personnel items being approved. The following positions were filled:

Substitute Teachers: Matt Rhinehart, Derek Cravens; Supplemental Contracts include Game Club Adviser, Michael Brace; High School Wrestling Coach, James Ford; Volunteers - Bundy Elementary, Christy Gallagher; Cheerleader, Karen Boch; Boys Basketball, John Jackson; and Wrestling, Don Jarvis.

After School Attendance/Achievement/OGT/OST Virtual Student Tutors: Pdon Allen, Roaby Browning, Patricia Johnson, Pam Patterson and Margot Tyler. Bundy Para-Professional/Special Aide Position: Yvonne Coleman; Middle School Para-Professional/Special Aide Position: Tiffany Avery.

The following resignations were also accepted: Middle School Cheerleader Coach: Stacy Smith; Aide: Briana Faught.
