7/10/2017 11:36:00 AM SUV crashes into utility pole in Jackson
A Gallia County woman and the employee of the Quick Stop convenience store at 430 E. Broadway St. in Jackson both escaped injuries when a vehicle crashed into a utility pole at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4.
According to Jackson Police, a sports utility vehicle driven by Veronica M. Denney, 36, of Bidwell, drove off the roadway and struck a utility pole in front of the store, breaking the pole and leaving utility lines hanging down. A store employee was just several feet away elevated on a ladder, changing the lettering on a sign, but no contact was made.
Denney had no visible injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene. Denney told officers she was distracted at the time as she was looking down and texting.
However, police detected the "strong odor of alcohol" on her person and after field sobriety tests were conducted, she was charged with Operating A Vehicle While Intoxicated as well as Failure To Control.
