The Oak Hill Union Local Board of Education chose to stay the course when the group selected leaders for the 2017 calendar year during an organizational meeting held last Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 4 in Oak Hill High School's Media Center.
The members chose to re-elect Aaron Michael as Board President and Paula Stewart as the Vice President. Michael is both an attorney and a Certified Public Accountant while Stewart holds a degree in Chemistry. She is active in many community and sports organizations.
Michael thanked the board members for re-electing him and stated he appreciates the service and individual contributions of everyone on the board. He further stated he hopes the public's opinion of the board and the overall performance of the Oak Hill Schools is a positive one.
On this same theme, Superintendent Mike McCoy also thanked all the members for their service during Ohio School Board Member Recognition Month. The terms of services recognized included: Joe Elcess and Michael French (15 years each); Aaron Michael (13 years); Regina Boggs (9 years); and Paula Stewart (7 years). He presented each member with a certificate of appreciation.
McCoy explained that while serving on a local school board can be very rewarding, the job can also be a thankless one at times. He said he appreciates the amount of commitment each of the members put into their work for the local school district.
The board will meet again in regular session Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
